The Kalacakra Practice Group is a UK-based group of practitioners
of the Kalacakratantra. The sole membership requirement is to have received a
Kalacakra Initiation. The purpose of the group is to support practitioners by
providing opportunities for group recitation and meditation, using traditional
practice materials. The group has invited qualified teachers to give initiation
and instruction, and in various ways the group facilitates study of the Kalacakratantra.
The
group includes Kalacakra initiates and students of lamas from all Tibetan Buddhist
traditions. All these traditions are appreciated for their Kalacakra lineages.
In particular, however, the group is founded on the lineages held by His Holiness
the Dalai Lama and Kirti Tsenshap Rinpoche. Although the origins of the group
can be traced back to a group retreat at Manjushri London Centre in 1983, the
present group was established following the Kalacakra Initiation given by Kirti
Tsenshap Rinpoche at Jamyang Buddhist Centre in 1996.
The group does not
have its own group teacher. Rather, members share knowledge and experience with
one another, based on their personal practice and study. External authorities
on Kalacakra to whom members of the group refer, include Kirti Tsenshap Rinpoche
and Jhado Rinpoche. However, sources of knowledge and inspiration on Kalacakra
from all Tibetan Buddhist traditions are respected.
The group is part of
Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London, which
is a centre of the FPMT. Therefore the group follows the guidelines of the FPMT
regarding visiting teachers and practice materials. In particular, the group appreciates
the general advice of Geshe Tashi, resident teacher at Jamyang Buddhist Centre.
We meet monthly at Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London, on Saturdays
from 14:00 to 17:00, please see the programme on the Jamyang
website for exact dates and times.
